Visa Application Requirements for US citizens
Business VISA REQUIREMENTS:
Email Requirements
1 Passport Requirements: Original passport and one photocopy of information page. The passport must be signed, valid for 6 months beyond stay in China and with at least one blank visa page available for the Chinese visa. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for China visa stamps.
2 Chinese Visa Application Form: Two Chinese visa application forms per applicant completed on-line, printed and signed. Signature must be original on each Chinese visa application. Improperly completed forms may delay the processing of your visa.
3 Photo Requirements: One recent 2 x 2 passport type photograph, in color, front view and with a plain/light background.
4 Letter Of Invitation from China: Please note the requirements are different by jurisdiction:
Chicago: A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is recommended.
Houston: A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is required.
Los Angeles: A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is required.
New York: A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is required. In some cases, the consulate will require the invitation to be stamped with a government municipal seal.
San Francisco: A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is NOT required.
Washington DC : A letter of invitation from the host company/inviting organization is not required, but may be submitted in place of a business letter from US employer.
5 Business Letter: Letter from US based employer or sponsoring company, on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant's employment status/position held in the company, and clearly stating the purpose of visit to China. The business letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant, provide detailed contact information in host country, and specify the number of entries (single, double or multiple) and visa validity (3 month, 6 month, 1 year, etc) being requested.

To generate a Chinese Business Cover Letter on-line, fill out this Business Letter Form and print the completed letter on your company letterhead.
6 Proof Of Departure: In San Francisco, an itinerary showing departure within 4 business days is required for emergency visa processing.

Length of stay is usually up to 30 days, but longer stays can be issued at the discretion of the Chinese Consular officer. Please note: In New York jurisdiction, multiple entry visas are only issued to applicants who provide a copy of a previous Chinese visa. Applicants who have not held a previous Chinese visa can request a single or double entry visa.

China Visa Validity: Most Chinese student visas are issued for a single entry, valid for three months from the date of issue. The student must register this visa at the local public security department in China within thirty days of arrival in China. The student can extend the period of stay (based on enrollment letter) or request re-entry permission through this office. In some cases, a double or multiple entry visa may be issued, usually for a maximum stay 90 days per visit. Applicants requesting a multiple entry visa to China must provide a letter stating the need for a multiple entry visa and the dates of future travel to the country.

China Visa Validity: The Embassy of China will only issue a two year multiple entry "C" type visa to crew members of large commercial airlines such as Northwest, United, Continental, American, FedEx, UPS, Polar Air Cargo and Delta. Crew members of other airlines may be issued a 6 months single/double entry Chinese crew visa or a 6 months/1 year multiple entry Chinese crew visa at the discretion of the Chinese Consulate.

Houston: A colored scanned copy is acceptable. Otherwise an original is required.
